AFBE-UK Scotland is to put the spotlight on wellhead equipment and drilling processes in the offshore oil and gas industry.

The Aberdeen-based not-for-profit group, which encourages people of all ages and backgrounds to consider a career path in the engineering sector – is to host a seminar that will discuss future innovations in wellhead equipment and drilling.

This latest event in AFBE-UK Scotland’s Real Projects programme will take place on Thursday, October 27 at the New King’s building (NK10) at the University of Aberdeen from 6.30pm until 8pm.

The seminar will provide an introduction to wellhead equipment, outlining how tools and equipment are designed and explaining their functions within the drilling process, as well as covering significant innovations in equipment which have improved productivity and led to efficiencies.

The keynote presentation will be given by Brent Harrald, engineering manager for Plexus Ocean Systems in Aberdeen, who presides over an experienced engineering team, leading the design and analysis of wellhead products.

Brent holds a degree mechanical engineering from Houston’s Rice University and spent seven years working as a wellhead products design engineer in Texas prior to moving to Aberdeen in 2004.

Dr Ollie Folayan, chair of AFBE-UK Scotland, said: “We’re delighted Brent is joining us for this Real Projects seminar and we’re looking forward to him sharing his technical expertise on the future of wellhead equipment and drilling.

“Brent will also give those in attendance an insight into his career progression and offer his advice to the students on how they can best equip themselves to have a successful engineering career.

“These seminars are vitally important as they give students, graduates and professionals an insight into different areas of the engineering industry as well the opportunity to add to their network of contacts.”

Admission to the event is free and refreshments will be available.
